As a pet photographer in Ireland, I’ve photographed dogs on beaches, cliffs, cobblestone streets, and even beside ancient castle ruins. But there’s one thing I’ve learnt:

Ireland is pure magic with dramatic cliffs, windswept coastlines, ancient stone paths… and while all of that makes stunning backdrops, not all locations are practical (or safe!) for pets. Nor are they welcome at every location.
Busy tourist areas can make your dog stressed or uncooperative, and no one wants anxious-looking photos.
What to do instead:
Pick pet-friendly, accessible locations where your dog can relax and be themselves. You can find some of them here. Ireland is full of quiet beaches, peaceful woodlands and wide open fields that look just as beautiful in photos without the stress. - Avoid booking the photoshoot on arrival day. Give your dog a chance to settle in.
- Bring familiar comforts like treats, toys, or a favourite blanket.
- Schedule breaks during the session. I always allow time for sniffing around, playing or zoomies!
Happy dog = happy photos.
Mistake 3: Wearing Outfits That Clash With the Setting (or Your Dog!)
This is one that most people don’t think about until it’s too late.

- And no need to match your dog. Coordination is better than identical outfits.
